Mr. Jesse Hipps, Sr.
Applied Scientist of the Year
Jesse Hipps, Sr., is a scientist, entrepreneur, consultant, author, domestic missionary and educator. He is currently a senior chemist with Michelman, located in Cincinnati, OH.
As a scientist, he has over 30 plus years of industrial experience in areas of material science and sustainability. He has worked with some of the most innovative research laboratories in the world looking for opportunities to commercialize the latest technical advances.
As an innovator, he holds 12 patents in various areas of bio renewables and material science. He has served as an adjunct science professor at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. He has over a decade of experience in building industry-governmental-community partnerships. As a missionary, he served 10 years as President and Chief Science Officer of the Heritage Center in Birmingham, Alabama, a church agency that specialized in science and technology education, career development and high tech job skills training to over 29,000 youth and adults.
Jesse completed graduate studies at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and undergraduate at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, American Oil Chemist Society, and the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers. He is the recipient of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Medal and Jefferson’s Award for Outstanding Public Service presented by the American Institute for Public Service. He has authored and published 4 books.
He and his family currently live in the Cincinnati metropolitan area.
